Rare 2 1/4” Smallest Antique Side Caster Reel

This has got to be one of the rarest Antique Side caster reels, probably by Forrest & Sons, the smallest ever size 2 1/4” of which I’ve never seen before or even knew existed, my research states Malloch only ever made a smallest size of 2 5/8”, what’s unique about this reel is that it has the handle on the spool and an early flat calliper spring check mechanism with on/off button , also what looks like the patent Hardy Bros nickel silver horseshoe release catch, a superb early design with all the quality components and in excellent original condition. It can be turned and fixed in both directions and fished in left or right hand wind, Certainly a collector’s piece and most definitely worth a cast, what a joy to cast out and maybe catch a little Brownie! Matched with a little cane rod.
